Trip by motorized bus to Jefferson City and Ozarks

Friday morning Everett Lambert led a group of mostly young travelers on a sightseeing trip by truck to Jefferson City visiting the Capitol and prison, then continued to Bagwell Dam and Ha Ha Tonka with campsites and boats. The journey included scenic drives, a dam described as 60,000,000 acres, and ended with a Sunday morning return. Participants named include Charles Cordray, Everett Lambert, Tom Cassity, Ernest Sorg, Fay Jennings, Ramah Sorg, Marjorie Jones, Frances Tucker, Lois McLaid, Lenore Tully, Loren Lambert, Carl Love, Stanley Riley, Randall Minor, and others.

Bittersweet Club Meeting Planned Quilt Fundraiser

The Bittersweet Club met with Mrs. Ora Molloy and led by President Mrs. Elizabeth Ward. Members heard talks on community benefit, reviewed club manners, and joined contests including a shoe race with a jig saw prize. Dorothy Cr eason led guessing flowers, Rev and Mrs Rudloff attended, and plans for next meeting with Mrs. Etta Sparks and others were announced. The group ended with songs and a chocolate ice cream treat.

Ordination Draws Large Baptist Gatherin in County

A large crowd gathered at the local church for an ordination of two deacons Bro Will Austin and Bro Lantz McCormick the event described as the largest of its kind in the county with twenty two deacons and pastors from several churches and visitors from multiple states. The day began with a Bible School session and an afternoon ordination followed by a park dinner hosted by the Ladies Aid.

Election of Officers at Citizens State Bank

The annual stockholders meeting drew the largest turnout since organization. E W Nickell J R Kenley W P Nickell James Fanning Dr M L Haning Rube Linhart and Joe Nickell were elected to the board. Joe Nickell became president Dr M L Haning vice president and Chester Bagley cashier. Dr Haning has contributed notably to bank operations.

Sayers dies from injuries at Milan farm tragedy

Last Wednesday afternoon W L Sayers, a 72 year old prominent Milan farmer and cattle feeder, was crushed under a truck while unloading corn at his farm southeast of Milan. Archie Sommerville and Bernard West were present. the truck started in reverse while Sommerville tested the water pump, trapping Sayers between a beam and the truck. He died about an hour later. Funeral at his home and burial in Fields cemetery. Survived by wife, three sons Charley Ralph Alva, one daughter Mrs Hinda Reger, four brothers Alson John Wallace Newt.

A Sunday dinner party honored Lou’s birthday at the Jim Slater home July 30.
