Corner Stone Laid for St. Louis Cathedral 1818
Bishop DuBourg arrived in St. Louis and laid the cathedral corner stone on March 29 1818 to begin a brick church replacing the ruined 1776 wooden structure. Subscriptions raised funds and the building evolved into multiple iterations, with early services on Christmas Day 1819 and the later 1834 dedication. The old cathedral block remains a landmark.
