Unique sidewalk sale to light up Brownfield downtown

Brownfield hosts a 12 hour Monday sidewalk sale centered at Courthouse Square with 9 a.m. to night events, $300 cash drawings at 4 6 and 8 p.m. and an all expense paid four person Dallas trip via KKUB radio. Budget OKed for 1964 65 Terry County United Fund

The Terry County United Fund approves a budget of 24897.25 dollars, a slight drop from last year, benefiting Brownfield Boys Club and Southwestern Dialectic Foundation along with many local agencies. Paul Yaney chairs the Budget and Admissions Committee with Ray Reynolds Arnie Lawrimore Re Bailey and Maxine Wottoka. A kickoff breakfast for Advanced Gifts is set for Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at the Sands Restaurant led by General Campaign Chairman Bob Hansen.

Conservationist Addresses Lions Club on Water Conservation

Brownfield Lions heard Soil Conservation Service expert Mack Gray speak on Texas water needs and reservoir planning at noon meeting in the Party House. He noted dam construction reduces silt to major reservoirs and stressed ongoing long range planning for distribution and conservation.

Rites Held For County Pioneer Mrs Lena Akin

Funeral services for Mrs Lena Lewis Akin 70 were held at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Charles A Seay officiating. Burial followed in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. She died at home Thursday morning after living in Terry County since 1906 with a period in Amarillo. Surviving are her daughter Mrs Roman Hightower of Dumas a brother Emmett Green of Tatum New Mexico and one granddaughter and three great granddaughters.

The Terry County Commissioners Court holds a regular meeting starting today at 10 a.m. in the Courthouse with County Judge R. A. Sims presiding.

Weather Outlook for Brownfield and Vicinity Today

Cloudy to partly cloudy skies with a few showers and cooler temperatures dominate today. High in the mid-70s and an overnight low around the mid-50s, with a mainly dry morning but a 30 percent chance of precipitation today and localized heavier amounts possible. Humidity remains high and sun may break through for about 40 percent of the time.

Midweek break ins and cafe shooting shake Brownfield area

Two break ins occurred Thursday night at Brownfield Tractor and Sands Restaurant on Lubbock Road with cash losses and a pried cigarette machine. A tarpaulin theft valued at 15 dollars was reported from Southwest Seed and Debating. A local cafe shooting injured two people, with Harvey Lee Williams charged with assault with a deadly weapon after a high speed chase. Jo Ann Carter also injured.

Rainfall Varies Across Terry County This Week

Rain patterns differed across Terry County with light mists and gully washers. Brownfield recorded totals of 0.11, 0.01, 0.11 and 0.50 inches for Wednesday through early Saturday, totaling 0.49 inches over four days and 0.96 inches for the month. Northeast areas saw 2.5 to 3.0 inches near town, Needmore had 0.8 inch, Union about 1.25 inches, Foster around 1.75 inches, while crops were not benefited due to late timing.

Foote Delivers Rotary Talk On Four Way Test

Dr. Gaston Foote of Fort Worth spoke at Brownfield Rotary Club luncheon on The Four Way Test of Rotary International. The Rev J Lord Mayhew introduced him. about 70 members and guests attended the noon meeting presided by Bill Noble. Judy Durham provided piano music. Rev Albert McDowell gave the invocation.
