In 1962 county output exceeded 5.3 million barrels of oil and 2 billion cubic feet of gas, with oil valued at 159 million and gas at 236 thousand. Royalty payments and lease incomes total roughly 2 million yearly, while industry activity spurs 1.8 million in exploration and development investments and 2.1 million in payrolls.

Rites Held For Kent Grawunder Eight-Year-Old Victim

Funeral services honored Kent Grawunder eight with burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery after a bicycle collision on U S Highway 82 near the Stice home. The Brownfield boy, a Wellman third grader, died at Brownfield General Hospital. Survived by parents Kenneth and Mrs. Grawunder and grandparents in Brownfield and Nutrioso.

Tuesday Highway Mishaps Abound Near Brownfield

Four traffic incidents were investigated by the Texas Highway Patrol near Brownfield. A 1962 Falcon driven by Paula Turner Grimes escaped injury after overturning. a 1954 Chevrolet pickup driven by Tobias Gonzalez Jr. lost control when a drag link failed, injuring Gonzalez. Two separate cow strikes on US 385 left one driver uninjured and another with a bruised knee. both cows were killed.

School Board Reviews Tax Roll and Staffing Changes

The Terry County School Board met for two and a half hours in the high school library with all members present. They accepted the 1964 tax roll, added two teachers Henry Bloodworth and Connie Russell, noted enrollment at 3148 students, and approved bus purchases and fence bids to curb vandalism while planning a special oil company meeting on October 12.

Brownfield school board agenda includes tuition request and events

At a recent meeting the board approved $24 monthly tuition for a local girl to attend school in Lubbock due to a hearing problem. They sanctioned a homecoming bonfire on October 8 and granted study leave for David Cole to pursue mass instructional media. The board may attend the State School Board Association meeting in Austin with Superintendent ag and Dr Posey. Burton Hackney attended as attorney.

Police Investigate Theft and Varying Offenses in Brownfield

Brownfield City Police and Terry County Sheriff report multiple incidents including a $1,000 tool theft from a under-construction residence at 1718 E Tate and other thefts. Additional arrests include charges for possessing lewd photographs and public intoxication plus a minor traffic mishap at D Street and Tohoka Road.

Light Moisture Reported at KKUB Station

The official weather station KKUB recorded 0.02 inches of moisture this morning as light rain and heavy dew fell. For the month, rainfall reached 0.28 inches on Monday, with 0.01 inches on Sunday, and Brownfield saw prior showers totaling 0.15 inches on Sept. 14 and 0.01 inches on Sept. 15, bringing the month total to 0.47 inches.
