Brownfield \u2014 the first sidewalk sale organized by the Chamber of Commerce drew broad support from merchants workers and service clubs along with law enforcement and media. Attendees praised community spirit with testimonials praising the event as a spark that changed the town’s aloof image and boosting local morale.
A $100 jackpot went to Mauro Molina of Ed Hill Humble Service Station for correctly predicting all 12 games. A five way tie shared $17.50 weekly prize among Sandy Canules Tommy Gould O D Moring Jim Northcutt and Jonny Vickery who each receive $3.50.
Terry County Commissioners Court met at the courthouse for a regular session led by County Judge R A Simms. Actions included approving up to 100 per member to attend the October 4 Corpus Christi Annual Conference, granting a right of way for a Precinct 4 road, posting bids for leasing school lands in Gaines County with a bid date of October 26, approving travel funds to the State Fair for 4H participants, and hiring Gene Carr as master mechanic to replace Carr LaRue.
The Brownfield Gun Club invites participation in a two day turkey shoot this Saturday and Sunday at the club range four miles north of Brownfield near Lubbock Highway. Firing starts at 1 pm daily with shells and guns supplied on request. Similar events are planned for the first weekends in November and December, with third weekend shoots in October, November, and December staged by the Young Farmers at the same range.
Rex Headstream 69 longtime Brownfield resident and former Terry County Clerk died from injuries after being struck by a car Saturday night during rain. Funeral set for Thursday at First Methodist Church with Rev. J Loyd Mayhew officiating. burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Headstream operated a local abstract and insurance agency since 1935 and served as Sunday School superintendent at First Methodist Church.
R. L. Hansen, campaign chairman, urges a strong turnout for the Dutch treat kickoff breakfast of the Advanced Gifts Division of the Terry County United Fund tomorrow morning at 6 30 at Sands Restaurant.

Prohibited weapon charges lead to several arrests in Terry County after a recent shooting Friday. Jo Ann Carter pleads guilty to carrying a prohibited weapon with fines of $126.70. Harvey Lee Williams pleads not guilty to aggravated assault with a weapon, bond set at 2500. Jesus Barrios and another man charged similarly face fines of 126.70. a lewd pictures case adds 126.70 and 10 days in jail. Investigation continues.
Weather cooperated as Brownfield held its first Sidewalk Sale along the square sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Clear skies and mild days drew shoppers to displays set up around the square from 9 am to 9 pm. Prize drawings awarded three $100 cash prizes and an expense paid Dallas trip to a four member family, with winners Betty Foster, M T Staggs, and Ross D Broom pictured with Chamber President Harry Elam.
