Services Held For Ben Scott
Services for Ben A. Scott were held at 2 pm Monday at Nestside Baptist Church with Rev. P A Powell officiating. Burial was in Brownfield Cemetery. Scott, 69, died Saturday night in San Antonio. A World War I veteran, he moved to Terry County in 1934 and worked as a blacksmith until retiring in 1963. He lived at 205 W Powell St. Survivors include his wife, two sons in Seattle and Brownfield, three daughters in Ontario California Modesto and Sea Graves, one brother, Earl, and two sisters, Mrs W M Dollar and Mrs Lillian Debusk, plus 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Two Sunday road incidents near Brownfield involve a 1954 Ford sedan driven by Vena Inez Brumfield of Las Cruces New Mexico and a 1960 Valiant driven by Louis Gerald Wood of Lubbock. Brumfield’s car veered after reaching for an object, hitting a guard post. no injuries. Wood’s car slid in a slick lane after a small animal crossed, injuring his shoulder and requiring treatment.

A quiet weekend in Terry County saw a few incidents. James Croxton pled innocent to simple assault and disturbance with bond set at 200 dollars. A Texas Highway Patrol driver was cited for driving without a license with 20.50 dollars in fines. Brownfield police reported two hubcaps stolen from a 1962 Chevrolet owned by Ray Elkins. Vandalism damaged vehicles at the Charles Paul Chevrolet lot including a broken antenna and scratched paint. Traffic mishaps: Doris Karr Mace struck a 1953 Chevrolet owned by Leon Lassiter on East Tate, and Carla Goodpasture’s 1961 Falcon collided with Curtis Scott’s 1958 Chevrolet on Reppto. A 4th and West Hill crash involved a 1959 Ford pickup driven by Kelly Sears and a 1962 Ford pickup driven by Troy Bryant. Sears was hospitalized for possible injuries.
