Spirit of Plains honors Brownfield high school band members
Brownfield High School honors its Spirit of the Plains band leaders for 1985 86 at the annual banquet hosted by Aug and Barbara Lovett with 300 attendees. Raymond Vasquez won the John Philip Sousa National Band Award as drum major. Judi Jackson received the Band Directors Award. Melisa Torbert and Spencer Lanning named outstanding junior and sophomore members. Latricia Timmons named band sweetheart. a large group of seniors and honors bands noted.

Terry County Summer Sports Camp Plans for June
Terry County sponsors a free summer sports camp for grades 4–8, run by Brownfield, Wellman, Meadow, and Union coaches. June 17–21 for boys and June 24–28 for girls at Brownfield High facilities. Participants must bring shoes shorts and a shirt and will be placed on age and skill level teams with drills 9am to noon and games 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Registration at Cagle's Sportacular and Terry County Juvenile Probation office in the courthouse.

Area graduates to end high school careers
By mid Sunday afternoon 180 seniors from four Terry County high schools and Plains will receive diplomas marking the end of their high school careers. Union High School held its ceremony Friday night with Juliana White valedictorian and Raylene Fulton salutatorian. Wellman High School graduated 12 with Dianna Sullivan valedictorian and David Martin salutatorian. Brownfield High School leads with 131 graduates in ceremonies at 7 p.m. in the BHS Gym. Johnnie Roe welcomed, Joel Ross valedictorian, Leigh Hoskins salutatorian. Prematurely, Meadow’s High School commencement appears truncated as text ends.

BISD to Offer Summer Bilingual Program for Young Children
The Brownfield School District will offer an eight week bilingual language program this summer forkindergarten and first grade students who lack English proficiency. It runs June 24 to August 16 from 9 to 12 at Colonial Heights Elementary with no meals provided and enrollment by language testing. Parents of eligible students will be notified by letter.
