May 1985 Brownfield permits hit high on truck stop rise

May 1985 Brownfield issued 34 building permits totaling 455 796 raising the year to date total to 1 230 511. Major drivers were a 165 000 residence for Lanny Webb at 201 Cheryl a 120 000 Rip Griffin Truck Stop and a 75 000 car wash for Leon Speed at 205 Tahoka Rd. Other permits listed include fences additions and remodeling across multiple addresses.

Brownfield BISD honors Muldrow winners and retirees

The Brownfield Independent School District held its year end breakfast to recognize the 1984 85 Muldrow Award recipients Lynn Pemberton Jacque Willingham and Chuck Taylor and five retiring BISD staff members with over 170 years of combined service. The awards include a $500 check and were presented by Mrs A M Muldrow. Retirees include four teachers Terry Lou Moorhead Glynn Turner Phyllis Tunnell Hal Tunnell and auxiliary employee George Kempson with long career spans in education and transportation.

Man Arrested Charged With Area Robberies

Police Chief J T Churchwell confirmed aggravated robbery charges filed in District Court Friday by District Attorney Dwayne Pruitt against John Wayne Hughes. Bond set at 50000, Hughes 40, linked to 2:17 am May 27 Allsup s Convenience Store robbery on Seagraves Road. Hughes jailed in Denver City. suspect identified in photo lineup. If bond posted in Denver City, he will be transferred to Terry County authorities. Attendant reported the robbery occurred in the rear, with the robber taking a six pack of Cokes and a 5 dollar bill. Country Caravan to Perform in Brownfield Tonight

The Country Caravan appears in Brownfield Saturday at 8 30 p m on the courthouse south lawn. Sponsored by the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce the concert is free to the public and attendees should bring lawn chairs.

Local man’s probation continued in district court

Judge Ray Anderson presided as Raymundo Cruz pleaded true to a motion to revoke probation. The hearing was continued with Cruz ordered to serve 3 years in Terry County jail, credit for good conduct denied. Cruz must pay $200 attorney fees and $90 delinquent fees within 60 days.

United Way Sponsors Summer Track Program for Local Youths

The Terry County United Way will sponsor a free three week summer track program at Cub Stadium, led by James Morris of South Plains College. Sessions run 9 to 10 for eight and under, and 10:30 to 11:30 for nine and over, Monday through Thursday with three upcoming meets in Brownfield Seminole and Denver City. T shirt orders will be taken at $5 on June 3 and 4.

Coleman Park Pool Opens Sunday for Summer Season

Coleman Park Swimming Pool will open for the Summer on Sunday under managers Virdie Montgomery and Gaylon Brnovak. The pool operates 1 PM to 6 PM weekdays and Saturdays, 2 PM to 6 PM Sundays, with general admission at $1. Parties can be booked for $35. Lifeguards include Clint Ellis, Janie Lassiter, and Martha Jones.
