Brownfield High School honored standout musicians at the Spirit of the Plains Band Banquet. Troy Burke won the John Phillip Sousa National Band Award, Betsy Williams and Mike Whorter were named Outstanding Senior girl and boy, with other class awards for Cheryl Flowers Sam Miller and Jay Davis. Doug Scott and Rosa Ruiz received the Band Director's Award, Janet Bullard was band sweetheart, and drum majors Danny Melcher Randy Rivera and Daniel Saenz received accolades. Brownfield police logged 92 calls Friday through Tuesday, including harassment, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and minor assaults. A wedding ring valued at 1000 dollars was reported missing from 514 S. 2nd St after a man came to collect a bench press and was left alone briefly. The man is under investigation.
