Brownfield High School 1981 82 graduates honored
The Brownfield High School graduating class of 131 was saluted in a near one hour ceremony in the gym. Betsy Williams gave the valedictory and Beth Hamilton offered the salutatory. Diplomas were presented by School Board President Janice Knox. Invocation by Mike Jones and benediction by Burn Browning closed the event as area businesses and offices announced Memorial Day weekend closings and partial reopenings.

A Velvet Club LTD burglary after midnight May 25 1982 saw about 500 in cash and 22 bottles of liquor stolen.

Eddie Burns 21 of Brownfield died Thursday after a possible salt inhalation at Ozark Mahoning plant in Seagraves. He was a Texas Tech student and Brownfield High School graduate, with services at Calvary Baptist Church and burial at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his parents a sister brother and grandparents.

Grand Jury To Probe Death In Custody Controversy
The Brownfield News reports a Grand Jury will examine questions raised after a man named James Warren from Roswell New Mexico died in police custody in Brownfield. Emelia Dominguez Anne White and Hal Tunnell received the 13th annual A M Muldrow Awards at Brownfield School’s end of year breakfast. Each recipient received a $300 check for promoting race relations among students. Retirements were also celebrated, totaling 133 years across five teachers Beatrice Brown Leola Petty Margaret Williams Dickie Zommerman Beth Geron.
