Reports show rainfall from 1/5 to 1 1/2 inches at several gins with irrigated cropland benefiting more. Officials warn dry subsoil could halt planting if little more rain arrives in five days, while mid May is a key target for cotton sowing before June 1.
A public hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Terry County District Courtroom to discuss selecting a site for a 4.5 acre Regional Court Residential Treatment Center on the west side of Lamesa Highway at Seagraves Highway in Brownfield. The minimum security facility will treat non-violent first-time felony probationers with substance or mental health issues, with local offenders prioritized and typical placements lasting six months to a year.
Terry County Commissioners cancelled Monday night’s public meeting on buying the Brownfield Country Club golf course. Officials called off the session due to unspecified reasons.
Education Task Force seeks ideas and instructors for casual “Fun Class” learning in Brownfield. Forms on page B2 invite public input across categories, with no rigid rules and potential adjustment. Brownfield baseball team travels to Monahans Tuesday for a Bi-District game after beating Lamesa 15-7 to close the regular season. Fabens and Alpine shared the District 4-3A title and play Saturday in Van Horn for seeding with two possible 2 pm or 5 pm starts depending on the result. Cub coach Schubert notes Alpine’s strong hitting and a young lineup led by pitcher Abel Lozoya while Fabens is around .500 and includes tough travel against El Paso schools.
