In Monahans at Lobo Stadium the Cubs defeated Fabens 12-2 in five innings to win the bi district title, with Tyler Travis scoring on a front end of a double steal in the fifth. They advance to face the Dalhart Golden Wolves with 7:30 p.m. Friday game set at Canyon High School.

Wellman High School named Cessie Wafer valedictorian and Michael Moss salutatorian for the 1989 graduating class. Graduation is set for 8 p.m. Thursday June 1 in the WHS Auditorium. Wafer carries a 91.40 four year average and plans to attend San Angelo State University then Texas A&M to study medicine.

Brownfield ISD Trustees Move Up School Year Start
On May 24 1989 Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District trustees reviewed a lengthy agenda. The start of the next school year was moved up and half day kindergarten was abolished to address funding concerns raised by James Willis assistant superintendent of business and finance. Superintendent Hendley explained the half day program had only 22 signups and could not support a full staff.

Public Hearing Set On Regional Court Residential Center Site
A CRTC public hearing is scheduled for 7 30 p m Thursday in the Terry County District Courtroom to decide the site for a Regional Court Residential Treatment Center. The 4 5 acre tract lies on the west side of Lamesa Highway at the Seagraves Highway intersection in Brownfield. Public input is invited. The facility targets non violent first time felony probationers with substance or mental health issues, with local offenders preferred. Beautification clean up project continues in Brownfield
The city continues Clean-up Fix-up Week for Brownfield residents through Friday.
