Death on U S 62 Near Brownfield Under Investigation
Leo Bolton a 35 year old carpenter was found dead on U S 62 three miles south of Brownfield. Authorities suspect hit and run with a mangled body identified by a card. Bolton lived at Modern Courts and was last seen in Brownfield with a found abandoned car nearby.

Two completions were recorded in northwestern Terry county this week. Cloudy skies linger over the county with a forecast of possible rain from U S Weather Bureau experts. Brownfield reports a scant .06 inches Tuesday night raising the yearly total to 2.90 inches while northern areas saw a light shower of about .6 inches. Complete yearly totals shown at the SCS gauge list scattered precipitation from January through May, with a county average rainfall of 17.5 inches.

Wayland College to Confer Honorary Degree on Rev Jones Weathers
Wayland College plans its 45th commencement May 29 30 with Rev Jones Weathers pastor of the First Baptist Church among three honorary degree recipients. Rev Weathers will preach the baccalaureate sermon Sunday morning. Alfred Cornebise son of Mr and Mrs Cornebise Route 5 will receive a Bachelor of Arts as 60 seniors graduate May 30.

County Faces Open Staff Hospital Plan in Brownfield
In an open meeting Monday evening Terry County discussed selling the Treadaway-Daniels hospital to the county to improve medical facilities. Dr. Daniell urged an open staff hospital to attract doctors, noting six to seven needed and proposing a county led operation with possible federal financing and a $250,000 building plan. A feasibility committee was named to study county hospitals, with a potential bond election if favorable.
