Elizardo Lassiter top athletes at BHS All-sports Banquet
Elizardo and Lea Ann Lassiter were named Mr. and Miss Cub at Brownfield High School’s All-sports Banquet in Cub Gym Saturday night. Elizardo starred in cross country and track with state meet and regional 800 and 1600 qualifiers. Lassiter teamed with Tammie Patton to win district doubles in tennis and reach state semifinal. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson spoke, signing autographs amid fans seeking photos and memories of high school athletics.

City sales tax rebate shows continued downward trend
Brownfield reports one percent sales tax rebate payments for the first five months of 1983 total $188,486, down 14 percent from the same period in 1982. May 1983 rebates are $64,073 vs $73,709 in May 1982, with statewide rebates 2.7 percent below 1982 levels.
