Booth Memorial Home to Close After 85 Years in Chicago
The Salvation Army Booth Memorial Home, founded in 1897 to care for unmarried pregnant teens in Chicago, will close this year due to dwindling funds. The facility housed girls as young as 11, provided schooling, and achieved low infant mortality with about 80 percent keeping their babies. John Shadeuck of Blue Cross praised its care as among the city’s cleanest and most compassionate.
