Brownfield High School received about 25 applications for the head football coach and athletic director position. Superintendent Crandall Young said 11 had been screened. A special called session was held Wednesday night to further consider applicants.
Brownfield School Board heard a local couple urge full day kindergarten for all pre K students. Orum cited a 138 name petition and noted 11 of 12 nearby districts already offer all day programs. Current district enrollment includes 110 full day and 86 half day students.
An 18-year-old Brownfield man, Mario Solis, was arrested after a burglary at the Western Club on Lubbock Highway. Police had planted bait money, Solis allegedly entered by removing siding, used a hammer on machines and registers, and money from the office was recovered. He admitted to other local burglaries and was jailed in Terry County. bond pending.
Plains High School announces Irma Jean Carrillo valedictorian and Roger Bagwell salutatorian for the Class of 1982. Carrillo, daughter of Feliciano and Helen Carrillo, excelled in academics, activities, and athletics, participating in track, student council, volleyball, and UIL events during four years, with a runner up finish in volleyball.
Community response to a plea for help for Seminole yielded over 45 sacks and boxes of clothing and food. Neighbors began delivering items early Monday and continued to bring armloads, while many called in to contribute.
Meadow Texas honors Joe Burleson, retiring Meadow Schools principal after a 30 year career begun in 1955. He grew up in Meadow, graduated in 1948, taught fourth grade, oversaw growth from a single building to present with 13 teachers and eight aides, and will host a 3 p.m. reception at the school.
