Grand Jury Indicts Five in Terry County Session
The Terry County Grand Jury met in Spring session and handed down five indictments. David Leon Carouth faces charges of entering a habitation with intent to commit rape on April 20. David Bazan Jr. is charged with possession of marijuana between four ounces and five pounds on April 18. Sergio Guidos Garcia indicted for entering a habitation on April 13.

McMillan updates board on Hospital billing problems
McMillan reports ongoing hospital billing troubles and a weak April finances showing a BISD bank balance of 81 844.67 with April accounts payable of 134 228.85 and a 52 384.18 deficit. Red Express Band named outstanding at Amarillo festival
The Brownfield Middle School Red Express Band was named the outstanding Class C band at the Greater Southwest Music Festival in Amarillo. Director Geoff Bissett said judges gave straight I ratings in both concert and sight reading, noting four of 24 junior high bands earned first divisions. The honor follows last year’s Beth Kelly Award for outstanding junior high band in C CC CCC, and the group will play in an honors concert at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Local citizens honored at SWCD Banquet by Texas Tech students
Country Press Publishers Billie and Henry Norman and science teacher Paula Jones received conservation awards at the Regional Conservation Awards Banquet in the Texas Tech University Student Union Building. About 200 soil and water district members from the Panhandle, South Plains and West Texas attended as awards were given for district and resident conservation achievements. The Normans earned a first place media award for promoting conservation in agriculture and Jones earned runner-up for conservation education. Both were nominated by the Terry County Soil and Water Conservation District.
