Brownfield Council OKs GTE rate hike settlement

Brownfield City Council approved a settlement with GTE over a proposed statewide rate increase. The deal lowers the hike to 32.5 million, easing timing and reducing residential rates from 8.90 to 10 and business rates from 23.60 to 26 if approved. The council also accepted a 66,877 bid for a digger derrick truck from Commercial Body Corporation of San Antonio.

Stewardship Week Breakfast Highlights Local Conservation Efforts

The Terry County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a Stewardship Week breakfast with remarks by Jack Garrett of the First Christian Church on God’s purpose in creation. Donald Hancock discussed hard times for farmers, noting 200,000 farmers produce two thirds of the nation’s food and County progress turning dunes into arable land. BHS Drama Students present finale of two plays

Brownfield High School drama department stages Ethan Frome at Brownfield Middle School on Friday at 8 30 p m directed by Lou Lindsey. The one act also features Ondine by Snyder School, both coming after UIL state results in Austin. Admission is 1 with proceeds to the Noyce Burrleson Memorial Scholarship Fund via the West Texas Speech Association.

Brownfield Harvest Festival Date Set for Oct 8 1983

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce fixed October 8 1983 as the Harvest Festival date after weighing conflicts with local football games and a Texas Tech schedule. Hospital Directors to study Ambulance payment increase

Terry County Memorial Hospital District Board meets at 7 p.m. to consider a proposed rise in monthly hospital district payments to Brownfield Ambulance Service from 1500 to 2000 dollars and a $4000 extra contribution. The ambulance service ran about 12000 in the red for the year ending March 31 due to uncollected bills. The agenda includes a monthly financial report, medical staff report, ER physician contract, and a new air conditioner for the dietary department.
