Bond opposition meeting in Terry County over hospital issue

About fifty people met in the district courtroom to oppose a April 1 bond election for a new Terry County Hospital. Proponents were criticized for scare tactics. present facilities were urged to serve the county longer while a study of needs continued. Virgil Crawford led the meeting with P R Cates elected president and Joy Henson secretary.

Brownfield Band Dominates UIL Solo and Ensemble

Brownfield High School entered 35 in the Odessa UIL contest and 34 earned first divisions. Winners include Rita Adams Ronnie Chambers Sheila Daniel Zanette Haley John Hudspeth Danette Jones and Kay Whitley. Five will advance to state. The drum ensemble marked its first first in six years. The annual concert featured Symphonic Wind Ensemble Brownfield Tijuana Brass and Concert Band with varied selections.

Easter Holidays Begin for Local Students

Terry County schools announce Easter breaks with varying start dates. Meadow Public Schools dismiss Friday for a full week off, while Union, Brownfield, and Wellman districts schedule several days away from class. Easter activities include a seventh grade choir performance led by guest Harold Evans of Hobbs New Mexico. Local supermarkets including United Super Markets Piggly Wiggly and Furrs close Sunday to allow staff time with families.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt Set By Lions Club

Brownfield Lions Club will stage its annual Easter Egg Hunt for Brownfield youngsters at 10 a.m. Saturday in Coleman Park near the Party House. Chairmen are Ray Anderson and Jimmie Keeler. Children split into three divisions with prizes for each group.

Brownfield Board Extends Staff Contracts and Approves 1967-68 Calendar

In a 3 1/2 hour meeting the Brownfield School Board extended contracts for district personnel, rejected all bids for a vocational agriculture tractor, and tentatively approved the 1967-68 calendar. Dr. O R Douglas given 3 year superintendency. two year terms to Posey Evans Cherry Cox Hensley etc. Board discussed securing old post office as admin building and authorized related resolution.

Light moisture returns. Brownfield records .25 inch

Brownfield logged the first measurable moisture in six months as KKUB recorded .25 inch Saturday night into Sunday. Last rainfall occurred in September of last year. A cold front arriving Wednesday is expected to bring more showers and potential severe weather.

Headstart Seeks Aids and Teachers for Summer Program

Applications are being accepted for teachers and teacher aids for the Head Start program in Brownfield. The program, funded by a federal grant, runs June 1 to August 1 at Oak Grove Elementary School, with a seven hour work day. Teachers must be qualified public school staff and high school graduates. interviews will be arranged after receipt of applications to the Headstart director.

Chamber Votes To Support Hospital Bond in Brownfield

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce board voted unanimously to support the Hospital Bond issue as recommended by the Terry County Memorial Hospital District Board. Directors Harold Klein and 12 others backed the measure, with guests Doyle Simpson and others in attendance.
