Kendrick Memorial Library Named For Donors In Terry County

The Kendrick Memorial Library, to be housed at 301 West Tate, will honor the late Mr and Mrs R M Kendrick after their heirs deeded the property to Terry County for a library. The naming was approved in a joint Commissioners Court and Library Board session. Open house drew many county residents and featured a drawing by Butler and Kimmel Architects.

Pupil Selected for United Nations Pilgrimage

Anita Jo Wooley of 301 East Hill is chosen by Brownfield High School officials as the all expense trip winner to New York City as a member of the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth. The 15 year old sophomore was selected from 20 candidates after a written exam on UN functions and assessments of community service scholarship and leadership.

Night of January 16th staged by Brownfield seniors

Brownfield High School seniors present a 100 minute play at 8 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium. Tickets cost 50 cents for students and 75 cents for adults. The production features a murder trial jury drawn from the audience and stars Mary Jane Brownfield as Karen Andre and Gene Mason as Defense Attorney Stevens.

Three Youths Fined For Recent Thefts

Three Brownfield youths were fined 25 dollars plus costs and given three days in jail on misdemeanor theft charges. They admitted stealing 12 hubcaps a battery a portable radio and a table cigarette lighter from Lamesa Plains Lubbock and Brownfield. The arrests also cleared ten hubcap thefts here in the past year. The radio was taken from First Presbyterian Church.

Future Farmers Win Showmanship Prize At Lubbock Meeting

Brownfield Future Partners won third place in showmanship for swine at the South Plains Junior Fat Stock Show in Lubbock this week. About 950 swine entered the 25th annual event with six of 14 chapter members displaying prize-winning hogs.

Nancy Gee Cancer Fund Reaches $448 This Week

The Nancy Gee Cancer Fund has collected $448 from 54 donors, with contributions still pouring in at the Brownfield post office. The fund, set up after the death of 11 year old Nancy Gee, will go to the American Cancer Society Fund for Research.

Services for Emery Infant Held Friday

Graveside services were held Friday for Donna J. Emery infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Emery of North First Street who died Wednesday after a two day illness at Broadway Daniell Hospital. The Rev Boyd Pearre of Immanuel Baptist Church officiated and burial was by Brownfield Funeral Home in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. She was born August 25 1947 in this community and survived by paternal grandparents Mrs Eddy Emery of Port Smith Arkansas and Eddy Emery of Kelso Washington and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs J M Rockey of Brownfield.

NCC Plans April 7 Discussion On Cotton Market

John Grepe of the National Cotton Council outlined a plan at a Terry county meeting urging a long range program to stabilize cotton price and supply. He noted consumption shifts toward manmade fibers and stressed reducing the price gap between foreign and domestic cotton. Kenneth Purtell urged attendance as NCC reps will present a three part briefing, with Q and A after.

Absentee Vote Set In Brownfield School Election

Absentee ballots for the April 3 Brownfield school trustee election may be cast through April 1 per Raymond Simms tax collector. Little League to Open with April Workouts in Brownfield

Brownfield Little League president Jill McGowan outlined plans for workouts starting April 28 29 30 at 4pm for all Minor and unassigned players while Major League members return to last year teams. Players turning 11 before Sept 1 have May 12 workouts. Regular play begins May 13 at Little League Park with parent involvement urged.
