A nine member Brownfield hospital committee will present a public report at 7 30 p m April 10 in the Brownfield High School auditorium about plans after Treadaway Daniels Hospital closes July 1. The meeting is a town hall event inviting all residents of Erie County to attend and stay informed.

Cubs Track Team To Compete In Permian Basin Relays

Coach Don Hendley takes a 13 man squad to Kermit for the Permian Basin Relays. Brownfield's Wil Meeks and Johnny Jones lead the group with strong sprint and field entries, including Meeks in the 120 yard high hurdles and Jones in shot put discus and high jump.

County spelling bee set for Saturday in Brownfield

In Brownfield Junior High auditorium an eighth grade duo Laurelle Wheatley and Ronnie Smyrts on Route 2 and Route 4 will compete at 10 a.m. Other county winners will join to determine the Terry contestant in the South Plains Bee in Lubbock. The Lubbock winner advances to the National meet in Washington D C in June.

Sesame growers to discuss planting program in Friday session

Texas Sesame Growers Inc will hold a Friday meeting in 106th District Court at PM with County Agent Jim Koy and Executive Vice President Robert L. Parker presiding. Clyde Black of the High Plains Sesame Headquarters in Muleshoe will discuss a sesame planting program with Terry farmers as the crop’s strong 1957 showing spurs farmer interest.

Homestead Exemptions Cut Terry Taxes Before Deadline

Terry homeowners can save about 12.60 in state taxes by filing a homestead exemption before April 30, says J. D. Akers tax assessor. The first 3,000 of home value is exempt, potentially lowering a 10,000 home tax from 182 to 146.9 and a 15,000 home to 261. Exemptions last year totaled 25,904 saving about 10,838. May 1 is the rendering deadline for school taxes. other county schools may be rendered with county tax rendering.

Two Mishaps Hurt Brownfield and Denver City Residents

A Saturday night crash near Tokio sent Joe B. Sloss 25 of Denver City to Treadaway-Daniels Hospital with one eye lost and severe injuries after his eastbound car hit a muddy shoulder and a grader. Danny Parks 18, son of H Parks, also hospitalized with lacerations. A second Sunday incident on US Highway 62 south of town involved two cars scraping and one veering into a culvert at about 4 30 pm.

Cancer Crusade Planned in Terry County At Meeting

The Terry County Unit of the American Cancer Society met Tuesday night at the South Plains Health Department to outline the annual Cancer Crusade plans. B G Jones and Lo J Richardson Jr led the discussion with Barbara Liggett of Midland present. Richardson noted 58 donors to the Nancy Gee Cancer Fund, now totaling 492. The film From One Cell will be shown in county high schools. Next meeting set for 2:00 pm April 11 in the health department.
