Sandstormburies South Cedar Street Homes

Residents along the 1200 block of South Cedar Street dig out after a two day sandstorm blowing from a barren field across the street. Sand entered homes and drifts reached three feet. Field owner Sonny Arnold Associates of Lubbock says he is coordinating with residents and considering plowing options or city help. council meetings have discussed the issue previously.

Vehicle registration crunch looms as deadline nears

Terry County Tax Assessor Paul Brock warns of a March 28 rush as only about 4,500 of 7,000 vehicles are registered. He cites money and the sticker system, with offices open 8 to 5 and extra staff. State officials say expect long lines and urge earlier mail registrations. Expect up to several hours in line for last minute registrants.

Spring Ready: Terry County Warns of Tornado Season

Civil Defense Director Earl Elrod outlines weekly tornado siren tests starting April 1 if weather permits. Five sirens will sound during a tornado warning, with emergency actions coordinated by local officials and monitored by Lubbock radar. Residents are told to tune to KKUB 1300 or KFYO 790 for updates.

Brownfield City Receives Sales Tax Rebate Check

The City of Brownfield received a check for 42761.17 from Comptroller Bob Bullock as its portion of the city sales tax rebates for the first quarter of 1977. Statewide rebates totaled 89500000, up 18.5 percent from the prior year period. Bullock noted the record level exceeded the previous quarterly high.

Jaycees Sponsor Local March of Dimes Benefit

Brownfield Jaycees plan a roadside collection on Wednesday March 23 from 3 30 p m to 6 p m. Motorists on Hill Street near the Post Office and Broadway near Brownfield Savings and Loan will be asked to donate to the charity. Most funds stay local to buy leg braces for crippled children.

State sales tax rebound boosts city revenues in 1976

Texas Comptroller Bullock reported $59 million in March city sales tax shares, an 11.7 percent rise from last year, based on Christmas season records. A new rule lets small retailers with $300 or less annual tax to file annually, easing workloads for 20 000 mom and pop stores.
