Deadline Nears For Exemptions

Stanley Miller, city tax assessor-collector, announced this week that March 31 is the deadline for residents 65 years and over to register for ad valorem exemptions. These people must visit the city school and county taxing offices to file annually to have their property exempt.

City to host public hearing on 1976 77 budget

Brownfield city council will hold a public hearing at 10 on the regular morning meeting agenda at city hall. The proposed fiscal year budget totals 3,821,391 dollars. Items include seal coating bids, designating a depository and newspaper, contract with Brownfield State Bank, and water rate increases. Glen Johnson will discuss an urban system highway map. Other actions cover rate increases for General Telephone, alley relocation on Gibbs property, and engineering services from Parkhill Smith and Cooper.

Warm dry spell ahead with highs in 60s and 70s

The National Weather Bureau reports continued dry weather through Saturday with a warming trend starting today. High temperatures are forecast to reach the 60s and 70s while overnight lows drop to the 30s and 40s. Light winds and some high clouds accompany the pattern.

Meet Your Nater Harold Shiflett Pastor in Brownfield

Harold Shiflett, new pastor of the Foursquare Church since last November, moved from White Oak Oklahoma after ten years there. He and his wife Sharon aim to offer a Bible course to all denominations and recently spoke with Dr. Carl Coke of Los Angeles about reviving local faith. In four months he has served as Optimist Club chaplain, church volleyball president, and Little Dribblers coach while engaging the Brownfield community. He is from Los Angeles and is the son of Ray L. and Louise Shiflett of Henryetta Oklahoma, with three brothers.
