Hoyt Morgan joins the U S Soil Conservation Service in Brownfield coming from Winnsboro Texas He will aid Terry farmers and ranchers in basic conservation planning Morgan replaces Martin Barrington who transfers to East Texas in April Morgan and his wife Wilma have two sons Dan and Stanley They attend The Methodist Church Morgan holds a bachelor degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College and a master's from Oklahoma State University He taught at the University of Wyoming and has worked in Winnsboro for 18 months Other SCS technicians in Brownfield include Mack Gray head Bill Dugger and J C Ebersole

Pessimism On Long Term Use Of Bracero Labor voiced

A. M. Muldrow of Brownfield told Terry County Users Association the Mexican bracero program faces a grim future. He stressed it depends on congress, warned lawmakers from 36 states outnumber the 14 states using bracero workers, and urged letters supporting PL 78 extension. Other Brownfield speakers urged action and public opinion.

Tower for Senator Campaign Opens in Terry County

Terry County Republicans announce co chairs Jim Parrish and Bill Nichols to lead the Tower for U.S. Senator drive for John Tower. A door to door Brownfield survey, women’s study group plans, and a March 28 rally at The Party House are set, with Ed Mayer to speak and Tower to appear on KDUB TV Channel 13 at 10:30 p.m.

Carlsbad man claims car title in early morning stop

Brownfield police stopped a 1953 Cadillac on Ross Used Car Lot. Jamie R. Putman, 35, produced a Texas title naming A. P. Cox of Hollis Oklahoma as owner. Oklahoma plates were on the vehicle and Mrs. Cox confirmed Putman had authority to possess the car. Putman runs a Carlsbad used car lot.

Terry Grand Jury Indicts 17 Here On Various Charges

A Terry County grand jury returned 17 indictments after hearing 29 cases. Named defendants include W. T. Henderson on two forgery counts, Dalton Neugent for DWI, Clyde P. Morris DWI, Ben Guebara burglary, John Erebia burglary, Jimmy W. Kaiser forgery, E. M. Moore arson, Ramon N. Salinas two burglary counts and theft over 50 dollars, Jerry Don Roedler burglary, Ronnie Hollis burglary, and Daniel G. Silva three burglary counts.

Paving Bids Set For Terry County Precinct 1 Project

Terry County Commissioners Court accepted waivers of right of way for a Precinct 1 paving project starting in front of the Mon Telford home and extending one mile south. Five bids were received. decision delayed until Engineer Ralph Douglas reviews a related report. Low bid came from R. L. Garret at 31089 dollars. A separate front end loader bid for Precinct 4 was approved, and court plans to attend the Odessa conference March 26 to 28.

Veterans Services Mark Life Of Local Resident John Gracey

John E. Gracey 78, longtime Terry resident and farmer, died Wednesday at Terry County Hospital. Services are set Friday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, two sons, two daughters, and a sister. Additionally, Jack Holt 65, Brownfield barber, died Sunday night. services were held at First Baptist with Masonic rites. Holt, a WWII veteran, was active in local civic groups and owned Brownfield Hotel Barber Shop.

Runaway 13-Year-Old Found By Brownfield Police

Brownfield police found a 13-year-old runaway youth after a traffic stop by Patrolman Sydney Hester at First and Felt around 12 a.m. The boy, reported missing by his parents for two days, was taken into custody and held until his parents were notified the next morning.
