Harold Dalton Named Head of Stinnett Schools

Harold Dalton former Brownfield High School class of 1943 was named superintendent of Stinnett public schools. A Marine Corps veteran with 67 missions he earned three air medals and later earned degrees from West Texas State College and a master’s in administrative education. Dalton began as teacher and coach at Stinnett, then served ten years as principal before promotion. He and his wife Mary Hanna have a daughter Debbie.

Users Association To Meet Tuesday

Officers and directors will be elected at the Terry County Users Association first annual meeting set for Tuesday. The 8 p.m. session in 121st District Court will cover the bracero program with speakers from Brownfield and a USDL representative expected.

Richardson receives Ford 300-500 Club award in Dallas

J. W. Richardson of Ross Ford Sales was presented Ford Motor Company's 300-500 Club award Friday at a banquet in the Adolphus Hotel. The club, founded in 1950, recognizes outstanding Ford salesmen nationwide.

Davis Resigns As Head Of Hospital

Charles T. Davis, administrator of Terry County Hospital, resigns effective within six weeks. He will take a similar role at Bever ly Hills Sanitarium in Dallas. Appointments for the vacancy are to be screened March 23. Davis, on terminal leave, cited regret at leaving Brownfield and noted his family’s ties to the community.

Fire Chief Porter Not Indicted by County Grand Jury

A Terry County grand jury declined to indict C. W. Bud Porter on misapplication of city funds. Porter, who resigned February 8 as fire chief and electric power distribution superintendent, faced the charge arising from surplus sale funds. Jury foreman was Carl Golden.

Alphabetical Ballot Listings Vary by County and May Spark Debate

Voters in Terry County will see 71 candidates listed alphabetically on April 4, with 3 500 copies printed by County Clerk Wade Yandell. Lubbock County uses two drawings to place names, placing the Big Six at the top. Dallas candidate Paul Bix criticizes the method as arbitrary while campaigning in Brownfield for the Senate race.

Wildlife Program Offers Free Varmint Calling Demonstration

A 8 p m Tuesday program at The Party House features Howard J Casey headlining with an all color showing of coyotes bobcats and fox called within feet of sportsmen. Casey of the National Varmint Callers Association demonstrates varmint calls and a talking rabbit caller to encourage farmers and ranchers in predator control with free admission.

Renfro 707, Second 700 Series In Brownfield Bowling

Lawrence Renfro of 1310 North Atkins bowled 707 in a three game series on Wednesday night to become the second Brownfield bowler to break 700. He totaled 278, 172, and 257 as a lead into the 700 circle joining Weldon Morton who had 722 earlier in February. Renfro bowls for Jack Hamilton Tim's Safety Lane Brownfield Radiator and Garage. Once a third bowler hits 700 the American Bowling Congress will allow a 700 Club of America organization.

City Golf Tourney Grows Toward April Start

The 1961 City Golf Tournament nears its kickoff on April 15 with open entry for players and club members. Brownfield Country Club pro C. G. Griffin notes improving greens and turning fairways as contestants compete for gift certificates and merchandise.

Winners Named in Campbell Store Grand Opening Drawings

Ten winners across three days of drawings held during Campbell's grand opening were announced Friday. Prizes include $15 dresses and jewelry, two pairs of hose, and slacks for ten residents and customers from routes and local towns.
