Terry County appoints Burnett parole board chairman

J Virgil Burnett, Brownfield resident and partner in Burnett Black Thompson Accountants, named chairman of the Terry County Volunteer Parole Board by Gov Price Daniel. The Lubbock District includes Terry and eight surrounding counties, with Richrd Rutledge of Lubbock heading the district. Aims include improving community understanding of Texas parole, noting Terry County sent 165 inmates to Huntsville 1920 to 1959.

Girl Scouts And Brownies To Be At Lubbock Meet

Dozens of Brownfield Girl Scouts and Brownies will come to Lubbock for Caprock Girlik Scout Council’s 50th anniversary celebration at Municipal Coliseum. Exhibits run 6 to 7 15 p.m. A pageant starts 7 30 p.m. Mrs. C. E. Motley will be honored for helping establish Scouting in Brownfield. Contributions to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund will close the event.

Cubs to Host Tors in Saturday Nonconference Showdown

Brownfield Council Sets Budget Public Hearing

The Brownfield City Council will hold a public hearing today at 10 30 a.m. in City Hall Council Room on the proposed 1962 63 operating budget. The second regular session of the month invites any interested person to speak for or against items in the budget.

Terry residents travel to El Paso for the 116th El Paso Scottish Rite Bodies reunion beginning Monday and ending Thursday. About 55 Terry masons, plus two from Lubbock, join Brownfield lodge 903 for the 26th and 32nd degree conferrals with a large list of candidates and attendees from local lodges and families.

Charter Member Of Legion Post Here Dies in Amarillo

Funeral services were held Monday in Terry for Tom L. Howard 70 of Clovis who died Saturday at Veterans Hospital in Amarillo. A World War I veteran, he moved to Terry in 1911 and helped establish Howard-Henson Post 269 of The American Legion. Howard farmed near Tokio before relocating to Clovis in 1954 to run a trailer park. His brother William Guyton Howard was the first Terry man killed in WWI after a prewar Legion unit was known as William Guyton Howard Post.

Former Mayor Frank Jordan dies at 73

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. today for Frank Jordan longtime Brownfield leader and Lions International official who died Tuesday at Brownfield General Hospital. The Mexia native and former car dealer served as Brownfield mayor from 1946 to 1948 and held leadership posts in Lions Club District 2T and International Council. Burial is in Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

Rural accidents in Tor y County noted by Texas Patrol

The Texas Highway Patrol logged seven rural crashes in February in Tor y County. Sgt A E Roberts reports six injuries and about 4025 dollars in property damage. January–February totals show eight crashes, one death and nine injuries, with roughly 6275 dollars in damage.
