Rostenkowski budget plan urged for deficit cuts

Tight county races force April runoffs in Democratic primary

After the dust settled Tuesday in the Democratic primary clear-cut winners still had not emerged from four county races forcing run off elections on April 10. The tightest competition was between City Councilman Doug Ryburn and James Martin for County Judge with another close contest in the Justice of the Peace race between former Sheriff Homer Parker and Frances.

Williams leads in Terry County GOP Governor primary vote

In Terry County 306 voters cast GOP ballots with Clayton Williams leading Kent Hance 168 to 128. Williams carried 64 percent statewide. local results show Rains five votes and Luce six. County results list County Judge Sammy Jones 260 and County Treasurer Frank L. Odom 247 among others. 7,729 registered, 3,754 ballots cast. Absentee totals: 1,013 Democratic and 64 Republican ballots.

Raney named to BRMC board vacancy at Terry Memorial

March 14, 1990 Raney appointed to unexpired term on the Terry Memorial Hospital District board after Kenneth Kelsay resignation. Directors Masso Cox and Webb voted in favor while Ann Jowers opposed. Jowers urged delaying the appointment until after board elections. Raney will serve the remaining year. Masso praised Kelsay and Halamicek announced he will not seek re election. Masso also announced revised ambulance contract bid specifications due to expire at month end.

BCISD interviews candidate for superintendent quest

Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District board met in executive session to interview a superintendent applicant among other personnel moves for the 1990-91 year. Colonial Heights Special Education discussed curriculum, testing, and inclusion efforts, with speakers Melody Pauling Carmen Camp Donna Nicholson and Kay Zeltmann outlining services, self concept emphasis, and mainstreaming goals.

McPherson and Timmons Named All-District 3-3A Players

McPherson a 6 3 senior led his team 22 8 with 22 47 ppg and 10 26 rpg while Timmons also earned All District 3 3A honors. McPherson topped the squad in assists with 119 and steals with 88 as Brownfield earned recognition for the season.

Rainfall varies across county with uneven rains

Across the county rainfall varied greatly with 1 1/2 to 2 inches in some areas while others had less than half an inch. Danny Decker, director of the ASCS office, called the picture uneven as rains Friday and Saturday fell unevenly across the region. See Rain.Page 13

Commissioners elect Jowers to Tax Abatement Committee

Terry County Commissioners selected Jasper Jowers for the Tax Abatement Committee formed after the counties adoption of enterprise and reinvestment zones. The decision passed unanimously with Jimmie Berry hill and Harvey Smith backing the nomination.
