Brownfield approves 1990 91 budget with 4 percent rise

Brownfield City Council passed the 1990 91 budget totaling 7 810 951 a four percent increase over the current budget. The plan includes a dollar surcharge on garbage water rate hikes and a two percent cut in electric rates plus a cost of living raise for city workers. Inflation and additional expenses drive the rise while savings from a new Southwestern Public Service power contract offsets some costs. A public hearing had no residents offer input.

Wellman ISD Trustees Table Renewal Decisions

Wellman Independent School District board declined to act on teacher counselor librarian and nurse contracts at the Monday meeting. Superintendent Raymond Lusk says finances will be reviewed before renewals with a final decision set for March 26. Milsten wins Terry County Spelling Bee at Brownfield high school

Brownfield Intermediate fifth grader Anthony Milsten spelled knottiness correctly after knitwear to win the Terry County Spelling Bee and earn a place at the regional bee at Monterey High School in Lubbock on Saturday April 7. Richard DeLeon was sentenced March 12 in 121st District Court to four years in the Texas Department of Corrections after pleading true to a motion to revoke probation.
