Brownfield officials announce a city ordinance 1446 crackdown on junked vehicles visible from public view. Residents have 10 days to hide or dispose of such vehicles or face fines from 1 to 200 dollars. An estimated 300 to 400 junked cars exist citywide amid resident complaints.
Brownfield High School DECA team dominated Area VI Career Development Conference in Lubbock with five first place winners led by Alisha Collin Rick Berry Everado Suarez Melody Littau and Dyann Bullard. Lorenzo Barraza placed second and Keith Rimer third. Brenda Gonzales was elected Area VI secretary reporter and the chapter won the traveling trophy for the second consecutive year. Xavier Sosa sponsors the BHS DECA Chapter.

A $1,500 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of suspects in the NBC Equipment burglary on Lubbock Road, occurring late March 4 or early March 5, 1982, with about 30 handguns taken. A $300 reward seeks help in solving the Joe Hinson Farr burglary north of Brownfield on 3-9-82, involving hand tools, and another 3-9-82 burglary at Clarence Neiman Farm southeast of Meadow, targeting farm tools.
The Terry County Grand Jury handed down nine indictments against eight residents. Juan David Jiminez faces a Feb 26 marijuana charge, while Carol Ann and David Whitlock are charged with marijuana possession from Feb 7. Mario Moreno is charged with possessing a controlled substance on Feb 26. Jose Ortiz faces two counts of sexual activity with females under 14 not his wife, charged March 6. Dale McDonald is indicted for theft of goods valued between $200 and $10,000 for allegedly taking a Speed Queen washer from Raul Cabrera.
Terry County cotton producers and agribusinessmen will elect a businessman director to Plains Cotton Growers Inc at a 7 30 p m meeting on Monday.
Brownfield High School star Marcy Holladay led the girls team to a 23-6 season, named District 1-AAAA top player and All-District. She averaged 24.7 points per game and 14.6 rebounds, with Levelland and Canyon players also earning first and second team honors. PCG meeting details note two directors per county, one businessman and one producer, with eligibility rules and by law explanations.
Brownfield Optimist Club selects Amy Stone and Carla Hogue as Tex-Anns for January and February. Hogue, a four year BHS tennis member and student council participant, eyes a medical career after Angelo State. Stone, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Noah Stone, joins state Tex-Anns competition.
Brownfield Police investigate an armed robbery at Jack's 7-11 just after 6 am Thursday. Store Manager Jack Pillow described a 5'10" man with long hair in an army fatigue jacket, wearing Levis and sneakers, who brandished a revolver and demanded money. The suspect had a speech impediment. See Armed on Page 4.
