Brownfield City loses grant for street and water upgrades

Brownfield City Council learned its Community Development Block Grant application for southwest street and water line work was turned down by HUD. City plans to reapply in October. project cost was about 220000 with 83 percent low to moderate income residents in the area.

Public hearings set on game and fish law changes week of March 21

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials plan public hearings across counties from March 21 to 25 to present proposed changes in game and fish regulations under P and W authority. A hearing is scheduled March 22 at 2 p.m. in the Terry County Courthouse. The Parks and Wildlife Commission will consider the proposals at its April 14 and 15 meeting in Austin after reviewing public comments. Citizens are urged to attend and share opinions.

School Board schedules special meet in Brownfield

Brownfield School Board will hold a 7 p.m. meeting on Monday March 14 to hear the Citizens Advisory Committee report on needed improvements to all Brownfield Schools. Gene Duke committee chair will present findings with financial consultants Bob Davis and Herbert Brasher on hand. The committee has toured schools to assess repairs and may propose a bond election to finance the estimated $945000 project.

Terry County Commissioners Set Light Meeting Agenda

The Terry County Commission will meet at 10 a.m. March 14 with items including payments to Estill Water Well Service for 850.48 and Leon Jones Construction Co. for 350 regarding the Senior Citizens Center, easements for the Ozark Mahoning road, and an outside audit by Casper & Ply. Also on the agenda are monthly county office reports and a 19.95 refund request tied to Disabled Veteran exemption.

Farm accident injures Paul Waters on family farm

Paul Waters, 20, of Rt 1 Meadow, was injured at about 10:30 am Wednesday while removing a cotton stripper from a tractor on the L. M. Waters Jr. farm in the Pool Community. The stripper struck him on the head, causing a six inch gash and a concussion, with neck and shoulder injuries. He was taken to Brownfield General Hospital where he remains hospitalized.

Little League Registration Nears For Season

Harold Shiflett announces registration for Little League Baseball runs 6 30 to 8 p m March 31 at the Intermediate School Cafeteria. Tryouts are scheduled April 14 15 at 5 p m, PeeWees April 14, Majors and Minors April 14 or 15. Shiflett says 12 coaches are still needed and contact numbers are 637-3488 637-6301 and 637-3166.
