Terry County Commissioners and WTCC Board members plus Roy Wooten met with contractors to consider another deadline extension for the Brownfield project. After reviewing delays from Jan to March and rising rent from 3500 to 5000 monthly, the panel tabled the vote to March 17 and again to April, with licensing and completion still pending.
Brownfield CISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 1997-98 calendar and the re-hiring of 192 teachers and staff after reviewing the proposed year, with start August 18 and breaks including Christmas and spring recess. The meeting also updated policy, approved textbooks, and permitted use of Cub Stadium for July 4 events, with executive session preceding the rehiring.
About 45 farmers attended a peanut industry seminar held Monday at the Terry County Show Barn. The event was co sponsored by the Texas Agricultural Extension Office and the West Texas Peanut Growers Association, with four meetings planned in two days across Brownfield Lamesa Seminole and Plains.

Texas State Senator Robert Duncan of District 28 will hold a town hall at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce. This will be his first Brownfield appearance since winning the seat last November after defeating six challengers and then runner-up David Langston in a December runoff. The district seat was vacated earlier when former Sen. John Montford resigned to become Texas Tech Chancellor.
