Duncan touts tax reform and school funding at town hall

Texas Senator Robert Duncan spoke to about 50 residents in a 90 minute session at City Hall, stressing property tax relief as a priority and questioning SB7 Robin Hood education funding. He urged coordinated tax and finance reform, and noted no Senate bill on the floor halfway through the 140 day session.

Brownfield Chamber maps spring and summer events

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce set April 19 at Terry County Park for the Brisket and Bean Cookoff with 85 entry forms sent out and 10 by 10 craft spaces. Prizes, live music from multiple groups, and a 8 p.m. dance cap the day. Ten days later a chamber banquet at BHS Commons features Chancellor John Montford as speaker and marks the Citizen of the Year. Summer brings a July 8 Cub Stadium concert with Gary P. Nunn and The Emeralds, $5 general admission, $10 per car for drive-ins, opening at 6 p.m.

Area elections filing deadlines approach for seven area boards

Filing deadlines loom for candidates for Brownfield and Meadow area school boards and city offices. At large seats held by Ricky Willis Roy Edwards Harry Stice and Nancy Wade open with challengers David Ervin Barney Lindly and Joe Trevino filing. Edwards and Wade already filed while King Caswell seek third terms as Brownfield district terms near renewal. Deadline is Wednesday March 19 with filings at schools city halls or Brownfield Regional Medical Center.

County to Hold Special Session On WTCC Bids And Extensions

Terry County Commissioners will convene Monday to review bids for West Texas Children's Centre furniture and a nonpenalty extension for David Wood Construction Inc. to finish the WTCC site on Bynum Lane. They may also act on a March 10 item, discuss courthouse restoration bids, and meet Terry County Fishing Club representatives about a Howell Lake tournament at Gillham Park.
