Pancake Supper and community events announced in Brownfield

The Brownfield Kiwanis Club invites all to a pancake and sausage supper on Friday March 11 from 5:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the High School Commons. Tickets cost $1.50, presales from members or at the door, with free admission for preschoolers. Funds benefit local youth and aged programs, including scholarships and civic groups.

Brownfield High Spanish Program Garners State Honor

The Spanish program at Brownfield High School was named one of Texas's top 100 programs by the TEA Foreign Language Section for its facilities and instruction. Instructor Mrs. Oleta Toliver highlighted a unique Spanish culture class offering weaving cooking guitar and crafts, and staged productions. The nomination followed a TEA on site visit after Toliver presented at the state convention in Austin on February 26 27.

Brownfield Open Houses Tie Into Public School Week

During Texas Public School Week March 7 11 Brownfield Public Schools invite parents to visit open houses on March 8 and 10 at Middle School Oak Grove Colonial Heights and Intermediate School with specific evening hours. The High School urges visits during class times to observe teaching approaches. The Masons sponsor the week.

Gear Works to reopen Brownfield clothing plant on limited basis

The Gear Works Clothing Factory in Brownfield plans a partial reopening Monday after closing Feb. 25 that left 55 workers idle. Local investors and bankers funded a restart with about 10 workers on day one, aiming for 30 by March end and 40 to 45 by April, with full capacity expected later. The plant is a division of Dotty Dan Manufacturing Corp of Lamesa, which plans to phase out fall and winter production and later reduce staff. no official closing announcement had been made.
