Death by own action at Brownfield motel claims Daniel Smith
Brownfield police described an apparent self inflicted gunshot death at a local motel early Sunday. Officers were alerted by a friend of 20 year old Daniel Charles Smith who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. The case is treated as death by own action.

Voters Prepare For Beef Referendum
Registration figures released June 23 show over 42 000 Texas cattlemen and more than 295 000 U S producers registered for the first Beef Referendum. If two thirds vote yes July 5 15 a new national Beef Board would collect 0 3 percent of sales to fund beef research education and foreign market development with funds remitted at slaughter.
