June building activity surged with 23 permits totaling $701 000. The Brownfield State Bank and Trust remodeling led at $432 000, pushing year to date permits above $2 million with 97 issued so far.
Brownfield police discover Lee Howell slumped over the steering wheel of a roadside car near Terry County Tractor on Seagraves Hwy. Officials say the man, from Rt. 4 Brownfield, died of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services are pending. Howell survived by a wife, two sons, two daughters, and other relatives.
The Local Housing Authority in Brownfield gains ground on a 50 unit housing complex for low to moderate income families. A 4.8 acre site south of Brownfield Cub Stadium and bounded by Shinnery Lane Ballard and Cactus Streets was approved for purchase at 37500 dollars. Utilities paving and proper zoning exist. Owner names are Mrs C V George and Don Wilson. Financing through Farmers Home Administration. A July 6 1977 meeting hosted by Jim D Rudd will discuss public school finance and teacher salaries.
