Pinson reports gains in Brownfield TABS results for BISD students
BISD Curriculum Director Jack Pinson told the Brownfield Board that the Texas Assessment of Basic Skills results for third, fifth, and ninth graders last spring show overall improvement across math reading and writing. He highlighted sharp gains in ninth grade math, especially decimals and measurement units, with notable but incomplete progress in other areas. reading showed strongest performance in Following Written Directions and weaker in Making Generalizations. Third and fifth graders also improved across basic subjects, per Pinson’s summary.

Texas Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association figures show Terry County produced 14,375,681 barrels of crude oil and condensate in 1982, ranking 14th among 19 Texas counties with 10 million plus barrels. Brownfield one percent sales tax rebates for the first half of 1983 total $206,595 through June, down 14.62 percent from $241,972 during the same period in 1982.
