Local Board No. 116 representing Terry, Yoakum and Hockley counties inducted eleven men in the past month. Rodger Dale Berry was inducted June 1 from Brownwood, with parents listed as Mr. and Mrs. David L. Berry. On June 3 inductees included John Dyer Gilbreath of Sundown, Concepcion Gutierrez Jr. of Wellman, Alejandro Gonzalez of Dimmitt, Carol Wayne Crisp of Levelland, Tommy Lewis of Plains, and Thomas Keith ONeal of Austin formerly of Denver City, among others. Enlisted prior to induction include Clyde Long Jr. who joined the Army Band, Eddie Sides in the Navy, and Rex Ray Clark in the Army. National Random Sequence Numbers reached 171 for this period.

Governor Preston Smith honors Mrs. J. T. Bowman of the Brownfield League of Women City Slickers with a 1970 Governor's Community Achievement Program certificate for Brownfield progress. The plaque, to hang in City Hall, highlights 12 months of growth including 10 new businesses, remodeling of 23 downtown firms, a new medical clinic and public buildings totaling $60,000.

Brownfield Council Approves Zone Change Public Hearing Set
Brownfield City Council approves rezoning Lots 1-6 Block 37 Original Town from C-2 to C-3. A public hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 16. Also, the city manager reports the Brownfield Motorcycle Club may share the old Boys Club building with other groups. Committee Urged To Implement Water Plan

A steering committee led by Byron Cabbi ness and L M Waters Jr will organize a pheasant meet on June 23 at 8 p.m. at the Party House. Soil Conservation Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife staff will discuss food and cover for pheasants, with a slide program planned. Biologists have surveyed Terry County for topography and habitat. a White wing Pheasant release may occur soon.

Oasis Builders Wins Low Bid for Brownfield Vocational School
Trustees of Brownfield Independent School District open bids in a called session. Oasis Builders Inc of Kermit offered the low base bid of 489 900 with alternates 1 and 2 totaling later rejected. Other bids ranged from 493 722 to 559 779 with various alternates. Oasis later listed a 389 650 bid.

From December 1 1960 to May 31 1970 the Brownfield Fire Department answered 100 calls. Forty two were outside the city and 58 inside. Cotton fires led with 15 calls. car fires were 18 inside the city. Inside the city seven house fires 13 grass fires 11 cotton fires three trash fires 18 car fires two false alarms four smoke scares. Outside the city 15 cotton fires six car fires 11 grass fires seven house fires one trash fire two false alarms.
