The Terry County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo begins today with a downtown parade starting at 5 p.m. at the compress grounds on South Fifth Street. Riders, riding clubs, and floats will travel through the square, signaling a three day event.

Brownfield City Council met in a called session to approve paving plans removing South Second Street and South Purtell. City officials discussed funding for the new high school site and surrounding schools with James Willis. The Terry County Sheriff's Posse Queen Elna Ray Christopher will lead the parade with Janice Allen as association queen. National association leaders Bob Morse and R B Allen attend the rodeo opening. Rodeo performances begin at 8 30 p m today and continue Friday and Saturday with parking options and event stock supplied by Red Whatley Company.

Twirling Clinic Added to Summer Recreation Program

A twirling clinic joins the Summer Recreation Program starting Monday June 23 under director James Morris. Janet Dee Parker will instruct at the high school gym at 9 30 a m with no fee for ten lessons for beginners and novices. Participants must bring their own baton. Morris teaches the life saving course at the County Swimming Pool with twenty registered.

Track meet canceled due to rain rescheduled for June 21

More than an inch of rain flooded Cub Stadium forcing the Lions Club Summer Track Meet to be postponed until Saturday June 21. James Morris director says 20 towns were notified and only a few cars arrived. If weather holds the event will run with field events at 1 pm preliminaries at 2 pm and finals at 6 pm.
