Terry County considers fireworks ban amid heat and drought
Heat, dryness and darkness push Terry County toward a possible county-wide fireworks ban ahead of July 4. Fire Chief Jimmie Rodgers has petitioned the Commissioners Court to outlaw fireworks in the county, citing dry wheat stubble and CAP grass as fire risks. Within city limits, Fire Chief Marvin Dawson will enforce the current city ordinance prohibiting fireworks, with violators facing criminal mischief charges and about $106 in fines.
