Rev Walls and wife graduate from LIFE College in 1949

Rev. R. J. Walls and his wife Norma Faye Ross Walls are longtime Four Square Gospel pastors who both graduated in 1949 from LIFE College in Los Angeles. They moved from Levelland to Hale Center, then to their current parish, where 300 people are on the church roll. The couple has two children and assets include a planned new building, with district conventions upcoming in Texas.

News-Herald Debuts Complete Farm Section Plan

Brownfield News-Herald unveils a weekly farm section written by Jim Compton marking the first complete farm section in the paper. About 700 sample copies will be mailed to area farmers for five weeks to solicit subscriptions and gauge interest from county farmers.

Red Cross Campaign Totals $2150 In Brownfield Chapter Effort

At Tuesday board meeting Red Cross officers reported a final campaign total of 2150 against a 3315 goal. Over 2250 came in through a letter campaign led by drive chairman B I Hudson. Marie Cheshir as chapter chairman and L J Richardson as secretary treasurer were elected.

City Lets Contract For Paving Project

City announces contract awarded to Baker Neill and Hanes for about 60 blocks of paving. City share 66804.55, property owners 143551.43, total 210355.98. Frontage costs 2.40 per foot for 36 ft streets and 2.65 for 40 ft streets. Public hearing at City Hall 9 a.m. July 12.

Brownfield Tohoka Golfers Clinch Country Club Tourney Honors

Top golfers in Wednesday's Pro Am crowned Brownfield and Tohoka players. The winning quartet posted 300 to defeat 112 entrants with Ray Warden low amateur and Joe Lopez tying Ken Wright for low pro at 67. The runners up shot 302 and 319 nets, as the Brownfield team led by Dusty Kemper added a 73 for key boost.

Four-County Agricultural Workers Elect New Officers

Dennis Q. Lilly was elected president of the Four-County Agricultural Workers Association at Nick's Cafe. Murphy Luna became first vice president and Truman Fambrough second vice president. Lee Roy Colgan was chosen program chairman and Grady Elder was re elected secretary. About 26 workers attended and the next meeting was set for July 12 in Lamesa with a night session to boost attendance.

Canadian River Reservoir Project aids eleven South Plains towns

A Texas water conference reviews legal aspects of water rights as the Canadian River Authority plans a dam near Sanford. The $78 million private funded reservoir plus $91 million with flood control would supply water to 11 towns including Brownfield Borger Amarillo Pampa Lubbock Tahoka Lamesa Levelland Plainview Slaton and O Donnell.

Adams Honored at Ai Review Assembly For Rifle Team Trophy

Lt. Fred T. Adams of the Brownfield National Guard helped lead the 2nd Battalion 112th Armored Cavalry to the St Dale Christensen Trophy in team rifle marksmanship at the annual reviewing ceremony on June 11. James W. Reed won the Lt. George G. Boyce Trophy as top individual scorer. Clarence D. Clark took second and Adams placed third.

Pop Day At Terry County Playday Honors Fathers Saturday

Jaycees sponsor Terry County playday at Cub Stadium Saturday at 2 30 p m with pie eating greased pig contests and cash prizes. The highlight is Mr Homely named best looking man with a drill set awards totaling over 200 and 120 local merchants help with tickets and participation. Local talent roundup and an egg tossing contest conclude family entertainment.

American Legion coach Farris Nowell reports a Brownfield schedule change. A game set for last night in Plainview was moved to today and designated as a home game.

Credit Course To Start Monday In Brownfield

Merchants of Brownfield and credit staff will start a Retail Credit Procedures course at Brownfield High School. The 10 hour program runs Monday through Thursday evenings led by Heinz Ulrich from the University of Texas. Owners managers and employees from various retail and service firms will attend to learn current credit and collection methods.

Placid Oil Completes New Well in Terry County

Placid Oil Company of Lubbock reports completion of No 1 Pope Pool, a 8 600 foot wildcat in the Prentice field, north of Tokio. The well yielded 11 barrels oil from perforations and 247 barrels lead oil after 11 hours swab, with 70 percent oil in a five second fluid flow. An adjacent drillstem test at No 1 L D Spradling showed no gas or oil, only water and salty water readings.
