Rev. Jones W. Weathers pastor of First Baptist Church and Army chaplain along with Mrs. Weathers and daughters Brenda Kay and Carolyn Sue depart for a 12 day trip to Waco Galveston and Fort Worth. They will arrange Brenda Kay's entry to Baylor University visit Mrs. Weathers' mother and see her sister in Fort Worth. The Weathers have lived in Brownfield since December 1951 when he became pastor.

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce manager Grad Elder cautions residents to verify salesman credentials with the police or chamber before signing. He cites a $440 termite job as an example of a bogus racket and says several thousand dollars a year leave town through such schemes. Some legitimate firms, however, are cleared through local authorities. A quick two minute call can save money.

Three Latin Americans were arrested Saturday night by city police while stripping automobiles of hub caps and contents of glove compartments. Elias B. Rodriguez 18 Jesse Sanches 17 and Raymon B. Perez 20 all of Tokio were tried in County Court Monday morning and fined 25 dollars each plus court costs and given two days in jail.

Tennessee Gas Transmission Co. will drill No. 17 C. B. Townes near Tokio to 6,900 feet. Placid Oil Co. to drill No. 2 Gideon et al to 7,000 feet. Lawton Oil Co. reports preliminary drillstem test results in the Cacy Day lease with oil shows and water, while Strawn tests show minimal production. Final Rites Held For Mrs. Mae Isbell
Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Isbell 88 who died at her home Saturday after a long illness were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Jacksboro. She moved to this city from Jacksboro a year ago to live with her son Terie Isbell. The sole immediate survivor is her son Rev. A. R. Bilher officiated. Interment followed in the Jacksboro cemetery under Potfield Funeral Home supervision.

Jail Empty for First Time in Over Two Years
Terry County Sheriff Chick Lee reports the jail was empty last week for the first time in more than two years. Since taking office in January 1953 the jail held at least one prisoner daily, with times of heavy overcrowding and even imprisoning three female youths in the sheriff’s home until parents could collect them. The facility remained vacant at 9 a.m. Thursday, raising doubt about immediate inmate returns.

Billy Joe Lewis Commissioned in Army Reserve in Lubbock
Billy Joe Lewis 24, a Yoakum County farmer and former Union School teacher, was commissioned an Army Reserve second lieutenant Tuesday night in Lubbock with the 413th Military Government Company. He travels 160 miles weekly for training, joined as a sergeant first class last June, and taught at Union High School in Terry County in 1954.
