ASCS Sets Final Cotton Planting Date and Diverted Acreage Rules
W A Fulford chair of the Terry Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee announces June 10 as the final date to plant or replant cotton for quality yields. Displaced producers may apply for credit as planted after this date and may switch to other crops except feed grains and peanuts. Replanting to grain sorghum remains subject to feed grain rules. Diverted acreage rules allow classification adjustments if planted workmanlike, weed residue justifies reuse, producer requests diverted payments, and the land is treated as diverted for the year. Applications are open for vegetative cover under practice D2 with eligible seed including Guar Sesbania Millet Forage Sorghums Sudan and Sorghum Sudans.

Shooting Spree at Steak House Ends in Threats and Arrests
A disturbance at the Steak House Friday night led to a shooting after an argument between Eloy Joe Contreras and owner Slim Tolbert. Tolbert shot Contreras in the ear with a .22. Loyalty Day Parade Plans July Fourth Event
A second meeting of citizens interested in assisting with the Loyalty Day Parade is set for 5 p.m. at the Division Office of General Telephone Co. of the Southwest. The parade begins at 10 a.m. July 4 with speakers on the courthouse lawn and patriotic singing. Curtis Scott, chairman, invites civic clubs women groups and individuals to participate as active participants rather than spectators.

Flood Damage Discussed By Brownfield Businessmen
Businessmen appeared before the Brownfield City Council on Thursday to discuss flood damage and suspected causes. Up to four feet of water filled the Plaza Restaurant and Motel area as culverts under highways failed to handle the surge. A state engineer estimated damages at 250000 dollars and council asked the Texas Highway Department to widen highway openings. A plan to divert floodwaters by channel or dam was discussed, with the council agreeing to contact the department.

Four County Agricultural Workers Meet Tuesday at Flame Room
