Chamber Directors Hear Plans at Regular Meeting

The Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture board met at 6 30 a m with Harold Klein presiding. They approved an Open House for Pan American on June 14 and discussed a juvenile officer public meeting for June 13 in the Flame Room.

Kiwanis Club Honors Weber in Regular Meeting

The Kiwanis Club met at noon Tuesday in the Party House with Tommy Johnson presenting the program from an American 1966 film. Weber received a certificate of appreciation and a cigarette lighter for past service as 24 members and guests attended with special guests Jackie Roach Jim Fowler and C G Grizzle. Weber will relocate to San Angelo to work for General Telephone Company of the Southwest.

Head Start Opens Summer Sessions with 71 Enrolled

The 1967 Head Start program began at Oak Grove Elementary with 71 children enrolled. Director Jim Hensley says registration continues. contact him at Oak Grove. Enrollees are entering first grade in September and need English language support. transportation is provided free. Classes run weekdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with breakfast at 8:45 and lunch at noon until August 1.

Tourism Committee Meeting Set by Terry County Chamber

Terry County Boys Off To 1967 American Legion Boys State

Six Terry County youths depart at 7 45 a m Saturday for Austin to attend the 1967 American Legion Boys State session at the University of Texas and Capitol. About 750 high school boys from across the state participate as they organize parties campaigns elections and enact and enforce their own laws learning by doing in a historic program begun in 1940.

Burglary Suspects Arrested. Multiple Offenses Noted

Two boys aged 15 and 18 were arrested on burglary charges for the Gomez Store break in. The 18 year old Louis Valdez remains held on a $1500 bond awaiting grand jury action after a night pursuit across Ter County. Additional arrests included John William Hickey on arson and a $76.70 fine, Geo I on assault held on a $500 peace bond, Andres Luna Martinez for liquor curfew with a $25 fine, Domingo Garc for liquor curfew with a $25 fine, Rufus Owen Estes for drunkenness with a paid fine, Maxmillian A Castillo for a $25 fine, Tom Bacente for disturbance with a fine, and Joe Burns reporting two vehicle accidents involving local residents.

Rains Douse Area With Heavy June Showers

The area recorded 2.05 inches of rain Sunday night dipping June total to 6.6 inches at KKUB radio weather station. Major flooding hit Union Community with 3.5 inches in an hour and evacuations by Civil Defense crews. Residents reported extensive urban flooding with several locations under water.

Terr County Rodeo Gathers Despite Heavy Rains

Rains delayed preparations but Terr County Sheriff Posse and locals cleared mud to host a four night rodeo at the County Show Barn. A parade runs from Ross Street through Main to Broadway with floats, riders, and 4 H clubs joining officials. Grand Entry at 8 p.m. each night features six events and youth divisions. Top prize of 300 dollars announced at 9 p.m. Saturday with dances to follow.

Jaycees Introduce Two New Members

Brownfield Jaycees held a noon meeting led by president Lanny Webb. Richard Collins and Robert Kennedy were welcomed as new members. The group discussed shifting to one night meeting monthly during the Merk We months and reported on the Denver City meeting and the president's attendance.
