Rains Threaten Brownfield Rodeo Schedule And Parade

With six inches of rain on Terry County grounds officials hope drainage will allow opening the rodeo at 8 pm Thursday. Plans call for a parade along Ross Street with floats to join riders and a 4 pm feed in the Show Barn for sheriffs posies contestants and visiting riders. Grand Entry set for 8 pm nightly through Saturday plus dancing after shows with Jim Mackey and his All Stars.

City releases regular monthly water report for Brownfield

Brownfield residents used 61,304,200 gallons of water in May with a May 13 high of 2,576,600 and May 29 low of 990,900 gallons. May 1966 saw 47,822,800 gallons, about 13.48 million less. Drought drives lawn and garden use as Brownfield readies water from the Indian River system, to begin Monday as the second city on the line after Lubbock.

Local law officers coped with wild weather and a reported Gomez Store break in. An all-night chase began after 11:47 p.m. with multiple deputies and city officers pursuing suspects. no arrests were final, and several drunkenness and minor possession charges followed as two accidents were investigated.

Brownfield Flood Devastates Area After Severe Storm

Severe storms hit Brownfield around 11 p.m. causing four foot flood surges in businesses along the Plaza area. Major damage to the Plaza Motel and Restaurant, Cicero Smith Lumber, and several homes with rescue efforts saving a man from Dallas. Roads closed, lightning and wind shattered windows, and 600+ telephone lines were knocked out across the city.

City Equalization Board Holds First Meeting and Sets Hearings

Members Dewey Rodgers Marvin McNutt Dale George and J T Bowman formed the city equalization board at 9 am in City Hall Council Room Bowman was elected chairman and Rogers secretary They reviewed the 1967 tax role authorized Miller to mail June 20 public hearing notices for taxpayers with valuation changes The board approved the 1967 vehicle valuation schedule Jo Dee Meil served as deputy The public hearing runs June 20 from 9 am to noon and 1 30 to 4 pm in City Hall residents may sign up at the tax office to discuss their schedules Brownfield’s rate remains 35 percent of evaluation at 1 30 and prior rates are noted

Legion Schedules Officer Election at Post No 269

The American Legion Howard Henson Post No 269 sets its regular meeting for Thursday at 7 30 p m to elect officers. Supper will be served before the meeting and both men and Auxiliary members are urged to attend this important session.
