Defensive driving course offered Saturday by Brownfield Chamber

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce sponsors a defensive driving school on Saturday at the courthouse. The $18 fee covers 9 AM to 5 PM with hourly breaks and lunch. Registration may be paid at the chamber office. Completion may qualify drivers for a 10 percent auto insurance discount for three years.

Brownfield council okays CDBG housing plan and relocations

Brownfield City Council approved Neighborhood Improvement Committee recommendations for 75 owner occupied rehab units under the CDBG grant with $7,500 per unit caps. One relocation payment of $23,000 was approved for a North 3rd Street property in poor condition. The city must complete 41 rental units at up to $4,000 each, while 38 units already done or under contract. Weather report notes May moisture at .66 inches, below normal. Temperature ranged from 40s to 90s with highs of 91 on several dates.
