Brownfield issued 13 building permits in May totaling 69,919 dollars. The permits included two church additions two mobile homes two residence additions and several storage buildings. For January through May 1983 the total permits reached 677,919 dollars versus 1,919,290 dollars in the same period in 1982.
Law enforcement reports an apparent self harm attempt by Sonny Dyer at By Lo Wrecking shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Dyer was moved to Brownfield Regional Medical Center and then to Lubbock Methodist Hospital with authorities citing a .380 automatic weapon. Details on Dyer’s condition were not available Tuesday afternoon. Brownfield Police investigate an undetermined robbery at the Southland 7-11 on First Street and Buckley, involving store employee Randy West as he was leaving. May construction notices list several residents and organizations in Brownfield with amounts and sites for storage buildings, a church addition, and residence improvements.
Rosa Garcia Charley Hargrave and Mercie Martin received the 14th Annual A M Muldrow Awards at the BISD end of school breakfast in the high school commons. Awards of 300 dollars honor a Brownfield administrator teacher and auxiliary employee for promoting race relations. Dorothy Burnett retired after 31 years with BISD.
Brownfield High School hosts a six week summer program from June 6 to July 18 for grades nine through 12. Registration runs 8 am to noon Wednesday with a 50 dollar tuition per half credit for BISD students and 75 dollars for nonresidents. Courses include English math government health and typing. The program does not count toward early graduation and aims to help students earn credits or pursue enrichment. A principal authorization letter is required to enroll.
