Western Week Rodeo Events Set in Terry County

Terry County roped off a crowded rodeo week from Monday to Saturday with shows Thursday Friday and Saturday and a Thursday parade at 4 30 pm. Eleven parade entries include Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups plus clubs and study groups with free rodeo tickets as prizes. Plans note Hereford visitors and stock, with RCA cowboys and top riders expected. The Brownfield proclamation names June 6 to 11 Western Week and urges proper conduct.

Paving Costs Local 65-Block Project Expected Drop

City Engineer M R Smith says this summer’s 65-block paving project will cost 2.65 dollars per running foot for 40-foot paving and 2.45 dollars for 36-foot streets. City Manager Eunice Jones notes the 1941 project had 2.95 dollars per running foot for 40-foot paving.

Northeast Adair-Wolfcamp Extension Through Midwest Guetersloh

The Northeast Adair-Wolfcamp field in Terry county extends with the Midwest Guetersloh No 1-A Guetersloh completion. Flowing at 265.5 bpd from 16.64 inch choke, oil gravity 43.2 degrees, tubing pressure 250. Water-free oil from perforations at 8,842 to 8,850 feet. Drilling continues toward 13,500 feet with tests in San Andres and Clearfork lacking oil shows.

Reverend Crosby Leaves Local Church for Amarillo

Reverend Uel D. Crosby, longtime pastor of the First Methodist Church, was assigned to the Buchanan Street Church in Amarillo during a Northwest Texas Conference in Lubbock. He will be succeeded by Reverend Javies B. Tidwell of Paducah who will preach his first sermon Sunday.

First Christian Church Adjusts Sunday Service Times

Rev. Bill Spreen announces summer time changes at First Christian Church with Sunday School 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and worship 10:20 to 11:15 a.m. The change aims to reduce heat impact and boost attendance. Vacation Bible School starts Monday at 8:30 a.m. for ages four to eleven.

Record Breaking Building Pace Continues In May

May permits totaled 1 $1 428 470 for the year surpassing 1951 and signaling a new high. May saw 13 permits valued at 99 650 with six new houses under construction and two moves. Most projects were residential aside from Kyle Grovery addition and remodeling.

Jim Compton Joins News-Herald Farm Editor Post

Jim Compton, formerly Ava l anche-Journal farm editor, joins Brownfield News-Herald as Farm Editor to develop a weekly agriculture section for Terry and possibly Gaines and Yoakum counties. He is a Texas A&M agriculture education graduate, 23, with strong South Plains farming ties and a Lubbock civic background.

Memorial Day Services Honor Terry County Veterans

Memorial Day observances Monday on the courthouse lawn honored Terry county veterans who died in combat. A red rose marked each commemorated grave while Gold Star Mothers received corsages. A Spanish American War veteran was recognized. The event included a graveside VFW ritual, a rifle salute, and Taps.

Teenagers Involved In Two Vehicle Crash Downtown

A fifteen year old boy and a girl were involved in a collision at the intersection of Tohoka road and Lubbock highway Tuesday morning. Damages were 97.50 to the boy's car and 50 to the girl's. Police charged the boy with improper driving and stopping and the girl with improper passing.

Mail Delivery For South Side Depends On Residents Petition

In Brownfield the post office plans daily mail delivery for the south side following a residents petition. Postmaster Joe Shelton says a survey shows 147 homes could be served, excluding areas on South Fourth and South Eighth already served by Rural Carrier No. 3.
