Brazos Authority backs Amendment 2 on water bonds

The Brazos River Authority board unanimously supports Amendment 2 and urges Texans to vote yes on August 5. The measure would let the legislature authorize up to 3.5 billion in water development bonds, repaid by future water users over 50 years, with federal contributions expected to exceed 5 billion. Colonel Walter J. Wells notes voters are not approving a bond issue as such but an amendment to allow future issuance.

Texans vote on nine constitutional amendments next Tuesday

Sands Bowling Lanes on the Lubbock Highway in Brownfield marks its 12th anniversary this Friday August 1. Owner E E Wes Wesley credits strong local support and notes many nearby towns have lost bowling facilities as 220 lanes were removed across a 100 mile radius.

First National Bank Hosts 50th Anniversary Open House

Geron Shows Canadian River Water Plan at Rotary Meeting

City Man Jake Geron presented a color film on the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority plan at a Rotary meeting. He outlined costs, shared Brownfield’s 4.7 percent ($191,000) amortized over 20 years, and noted cooperative building of the Lubbock water plant with Lubbock and five area cities.

Motorcycle Club Organized Here

A citywide motorcycling group, the Brownfield Motorcycle Association, formed at a July 25 meeting, will finalize plans at a Friday August 1 gathering hosted by Wendell McWilliams. New officers are Sherill Lindsey president Lonnie Fulford vice president and secretary treasurer Don Skiles. Board members are Ferrer Daniel Gary Oliver and Wendell McWilliams. The group emphasizes safety and wholesome sport and invites all males over 18 to join.
