Certify Crops By Aug 15 Deadline Looms In Terry County

August 12 is the certification deadline for crop acreages in Terry County per ASCS manager Johnny Stockton. Farmers should certify acreages and diverted lands soon to secure payments, with 15 working days left and over half the farms uncertified. Practice D-11 begins August 1 for vegetative winter erosion protection using rye hairy vetch Austrian winter peas and Madrid clover at $1.50 per acre. Applications must be filed before work starts and approvals are first come first served.

WTCC Approves Five Amendments on State Issues

The West Texas Chamber of Commerce State Affairs committee and regional chamber executive committee approve five Texas constitutional amendments including water bonds and higher legislative salaries. Three amendments get no action and amendment No. 9 for annual sessions faces opposition. All nine amendments go to voters on August 5. Local Boy Scouts Leave Jamboree

More than 40 000 Scouts at the seventh National Jamboree break camp and head home. Local contingent led by Tom Hilbun Richard McCance and Gene White will tour Idaho Salt Lake City Grand Canyon and New Mexico before returning to Lubbock Sunday. Lady Baden Powell the movement originator was an honored guest and spoke in a lengthy interview.

Students to Attend Citizenship Seminar at Baylor University

Three Terry County high school students will travel by chartered bus to Baylor University in Waco for a four day Citizenship Seminar July 29 to August 2. The Terry County Farm Bureau sponsors the group. 390 students from 140 Texas counties will attend. Notable lecturers include Dr. C. L. Ganus John Noble and W Cleon Skousen.

Absentee Ballots Cast for August Amendment Election

An even dozen absentee ballots have been cast for the constitutional amendment vote slated for August 5. Absentee voting ends at 5 p m Friday August 1 for those away on election day. Voters may cast at the county clerk's office. Texas residents in Terry County less than six months may vote absentee in this county.

Council of Government Accepts By-Laws in Meadow City Meeting

Terry County officials and Meadow City representatives from City County Hospital District and Union School District approve by-laws. Thirteen attend as Meadow City Council and school districts join, with quarterly meetings scheduled and the next in November.
