Water Plan To Affect Millions Across Texas Area

Texas Tech economist Dr. Vernon T. Clover reports the Mississippi River water import plan would affect 9.8 million people in 174 counties across Texas New Mexico and Louisiana. The study breaks populations by region including East Texas High Plains West Texas and the Houston area with 2.8 million in the coastal stretch. The plan would divert surplus Mississippi water while leaving enough flow to support Gulf marshlands and tributaries.

Brownfield All Stars Fall in Final to Levelland

Brownfield All Stars lose 5 to 4 in the tournament final to Levelland after a late ninth inning. Levelland advanced by defeating Whiteface Sundown 15 to 0 and Denver City beat Brownfield earlier 5 to 1. Gary Willis suffered the loss as pitcher after replacing Louis Roberson in the second.

Absentee Voting Up For Five Amendments In County Clerk Office

Absentee voting at the county clerk office on nine constitutional amendments rose slightly with six ballots cast by 5 p.m. Tuesday. Voters may cast absentee ballots until 5 p.m. August 1. The election is set for August 8. Texas voters who moved to Terry County within the last six months may vote absentee at the clerk's office. Previously they voted by mail from their prior county.

Service To Community Is Auxiliary's Motto

The American Legion Auxiliary promotes service to country and community. Local unit with 63 members, led by President Mrs H Y Griffis and officers Mrs R D Shew Make as secretary and Mrs R N Lowe as treasurer, supports Girls State sponsorship and community projects including purchasing a piano for the American Legion Hall. Three girls attended this year Rita Beth Adams Karen Beasley and Linda Forsyth.

Terry County Fifth in Cotton Production in 1968

Terry County produced 125 100 bales of cotton in 1968, securing fifth place among Texas counties. The county also ranked second in lint per acre at 553 pounds, with Hockley first and Lynn third. County agent Jim Foy cited irrigation limits as a key factor.
